MAP2

A gene on chromosome 2q34 that encodes a protein belonging to the microtubule-associated protein family, which are involved in microtubule assembly, an essential step in neurogenesis. Based on similar genes in rodents, in humans the MAP2 protein product may play a role in determining and stabilising dentritic shape during neuronal development.
