Lysenko

(lĭ-sĕng′kō, -syĕn′kə), Trofim Denisovich 1898-1976.
Soviet biologist and agronomist. Director of the Institute of Genetics of the Soviet Academy of Sciences (1940-1964), he rejected genetics in favor of Lamarckian ideas and supported the arrest of many scientists, thus hindering the development of Soviet agriculture.
