Lotka, Alfred James

(1880–1949) American biologist, author of Principles of Physical Biology (1925), who derived mathematical expressions governing the results of competition between populations and interactions between predator and prey. V. Volterra published similar expressions in Italy, independently, in 1926. See K (1).
