Etymology: Emil Looser, Swiss physician, 1877-1936
transverse translucent bands, sometimes symmetric, seen radiographically in the cortex of bones affected with osteomalacia or certain other deficiency diseases.

Looser's zones

pseudofractures (i.e. demineralized bands) noted on radiograph, characteristic of adult osteomalacia, childhood rickets, vitamin D deficiencies
