the small cisternlike area of the conjunctiva at the medial angle of the eye, in which the tears collect after bathing the anterior surface of the eyeball and the conjunctival sac.

Etymology: L, lacus, lake, lacrimalis, tears
a triangular space separating the medial ends of the upper and the lower eyelids at the inner canthus where the tears collect. It is an extension of the medial canthus and contains the lacrimal caruncle.
