Finally achieving sufficient solvency to return to Scotland, he gained his triple Scottish qualification (LRCP and LRCS from Edinburgh and
LRFPS from Glasgow).
Educated at Fort Hare, from 1938 the latter undertook medical training in Scotland, qualifying
LRFPS (Glasgow, 1943) and LRCS (Edinburgh, 1946.) On his return to South Africa he set up a practice in East London.
