LMP-1

A 60-kD transmembrane protein encoded by the BNLF1 gene of Epstein-Barr virus, which is essential for EBV-mediated growth transformation. It mediates cell signaling by the TNF-alpha/CD40 pathway.

Detected by PCR, Southern blot, in situ hybridization.

Abnormal expression
Infectious mononucleosis, atypical lymphoproliferations, AIDS-related lymphomas, peripheral T-cell lymphomas, anaplastic (Ki-1-positive) large cell lymphomas, Hodgkin lymphoma (specifically, in Reed-Sternberg cells), and in undifferentiated nasopharyngeal carcinoma.

In our study the EBV LMP-1 positivity was maximally shown in the MC subtype (72.
11 In contrast to this in a South Indian study EBV LMP-1 showed more positivity in the NS subtype, 86% cases.
20 In Iraq MC subtype (42%) dominated NS (22%) but again the MC was 100% positive for EBV LMP-1 as compared to 90.
In an Austrian study NS was the most common subtype with 59% cases, followed by 31% cases of MC subtype but the EBV positivity by LMP-1 immuno-reactivity was detected in 21% of the NS subtype and 38% of the MC subtype.
8%) but the maximum EBV LMP-1 positivity was shown in LD (50%) as compared to MC (45%) and NS subtype (27.
Summary of the results of EBV in situ hybridization and EBV LMP-1 immunohistochemical stains in Jordanian patients with Hodgkin's lymphoma (a) Patient Sex/Age no.
Among EBERs and LMP-1 positive cases, there were 5 immunocompromised patients, either with HIV infection or with primary immunodeficiency (Table 2).
Treatment results and outcome of children with NHL were correlated with the histologic subtype, EBERs in situ hybridization, and LMP-1 expression.
The results of this study indicate that the distribution of EBV within our sample of cases of pediatric NHL shows EBERs presence and LMP-1 expression in 25% of patients.
24,25) In this report we detected LMP-1 expression in the 3 Burkitt lymphoma cases studied, 2 proving to be HIV positive.
