LMP-1

A 60-kD transmembrane protein encoded by the BNLF1 gene of Epstein-Barr virus, which is essential for EBV-mediated growth transformation. It mediates cell signaling by the TNF-alpha/CD40 pathway.

Detected by PCR, Southern blot, in situ hybridization.

Abnormal expression
Infectious mononucleosis, atypical lymphoproliferations, AIDS-related lymphomas, peripheral T-cell lymphomas, anaplastic (Ki-1-positive) large cell lymphomas, Hodgkin lymphoma (specifically, in Reed-Sternberg cells), and in undifferentiated nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
