Low magnification LM views of the wood-coating interface (Figures 3 and 4) show a wide range of tissue distortions in early- and latewood surface layers of the plywood, reflecting the severity of damage resulting from the "plowing" and "ripping" actions of band-sawing, with damage being more severe for earlywood than latewood.
