LGALS4

LGALS4

A gene on chromosome 19q13.2 that encodes a galectin family-type carbohydrate-binding protein, which modulates cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions. LGALS is only expressed in the (large and small) intestine, and is under-expressed in colorectal cancer.

Previous studies reported that intestinal metaplasia is a premalignant lesion (34-36) involving the cumulative loss of expression of differentiation or adhesion protein biomarkers such as CDH17, MUC13m, REG4, and LGALS4. This is thought to induce the disorganization of tissue architecture, which, together with cellular dedifferentiation, enhances carcinogenesis (11).
[19] have indicated that CpG934, whose differential methylation has also been associated with autism, falls within predicted binding domains for vrel reticuloendotheliosis viral oncogene homolog (avian) (cRel), zinc fingers and homeoboxes 2 (ZHX2), and lectin, galactoside-binding, soluble, 4 (LGALS4).
