Krukenberg's tumor

a type of carcinoma of the ovary, usually metastatic from cancer of the gastrointestinal tract, especially of the stomach. It is characterized by areas of mucoid degeneration and the presence of signet-ring–like cells.

Etymology: Friedrich E. Krukenberg, German pathologist, 1871-1946
a neoplasm of the ovary that is a metastasis of a GI malignancy, usually stomach cancer. Cytological examination often reveals mucoid degeneration and many large cells shaped like signet rings. Also called carcinoma mucocellulare.
