At the start of the 20th century, a German neuroanatomist named Korbinian Brodmann parceled the human cortex into nearly 50 different areas by looking at the structure and organization of sections of brain under a microscope.
Korbinian Brodmann (18681918) worked at that institute and classified there in the first decade of 20th century the whole cortex into 45 distinct areas based on morphologic characteristics of the grey matter [12].
To assign anatomical labels to the places in three-dimensional space, different kinds of templates are used, for example the already more than 100-year-old map of Korbinian Brodmann based on microscopic investigations of brain tissue, the map of a dissected brain of a 60-year-old French woman in a so-called Talairach space, or the MNI-atlas based on 305 anatomical MRI images of young, right-handed, North-American and mostly male healthy volunteers.
According to the maps of the cerebral cortex developed by Korbinian Brodmann, which are still in use today, Broca's region is composed of two areas.
Along with his colleague Korbinian Brodmann, Dr Vogt experimented with a range of self-hypnosis techniques which he found could relieve many stress-related symptoms and diseases.
