Kinshasa Highway

An informal name for a vehicular route across the Democratic Republic of the Congo into Uganda and beyond, which consists of stretches of paved road interspersed with seasonally impassable tracks elsewhere. The name gained currency for the role which long-distance truck drivers played in spreading AIDS in the 1980s and 1990s by frequenting prostitutes on the road
