KPNA6(redirected from Karyopherin subunit alpha-6)
KPNA6A gene on chromosome 1p35.1 that encodes an alpha subunit of karyopherin, which plays a key role in nuclear protein import as an adapter protein for nuclear receptor KPNB1. Docking of the importin/substrate complex to the nuclear pore complex (NPC) is mediated by KPNB1 through binding to nucleoporin FxFG repeats; the complex is then translocated through the pore by an energy-requiring, Ran-dependent mechanism.
