CLEC16A

A gene on chromosome 16p13.13 that encodes a C-type lectin domain protein primarily expressed in immune cells, including dendritic cells, B cells and natural killer cells.

Molecular pathology
Type-1 diabetes is associated with variations within a 233-kb linkage disequilibrium block on chromosome 16p13, which includes CLEC16A/KIAA0350.

In addition to confirming previously identified loci, we observed highly significant association with CLEC16A [C-type lectin domain family 16, member A (formerly KIAA0350)], the gene product of which is predicted to be a sugar binding C-type lectin.
