KRT4A gene on chromosome 12q13.13 that encodes a type-II cytokeratin that is specifically co-expressed in differentiated layers of mucosal and oesophageal epithelia with family member KRT13.
KRT4 mutations are associated with white sponge nevus, which is characterised by oral, oesophageal and anal leukoplakia.
