CDH6

A gene on chromosome 5p13.3 that encodes a calcium-dependent cell–cell adhesion glycoprotein (cadherin), which is involved in regulating cell–cell adhesions, mobility and proliferation of epithelial cells. CDH6 is a so-called type-II (atypical) cadherin—which lacks a HAV cell adhesion recognition sequence specific to type-I cadherins—and may play a role in kidney, endometrial and placenta development. It is highly expressed in the brain, cerebellum and kidneys.

Molecular pathology
Decreased CDH6 expression is linked to tumour growth and metastasis.

In addition, [beta]-cadherin is found in the placenta (36), VE-cadherin is found in the vascular endothelium, and R-and K-cadherin are found in the retina and kidney, respectively (38).
