MAPK8

A gene on chromosome 10q11.22 that encodes a member of the MAP kinase family, which integrate multiple biochemical signals and are involved in cell proliferation, differentiation, transcription, regulation and development. MAPK8 is activated by various cell stimuli and targets specific transcription factors, mediating immediate early gene expression in response to cell stimuli. MAPK8 activation by TNF-alpha is a requisite for TNF-alpha-induced apoptosis, including that induced by UV light, which may be related to cytochrome C-mediated cell death. MAPK8 plays a key role in T cell proliferation, apoptosis and differentiation.
