The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded jointly to Albert Claude, formerly of the Rockefeller Institute and currently director of the Institute Jules Bordet in Belgium, Emil Palade of Yale University Medical School, and Christian de Duve of Belgium, associated with the Rockefeller Institute and the University of Louvain, for their research into the inner workings of cells.
