Jane A. (1862–1919). American nurse and one of the organizers of military nursing. She served as president of the Nurses' Associated Alumnae (now the American Nurses' Association) and as superintendent of the Army Nurse Corps and founded the American Red Cross Nursing Service. From 1909 until 1919, she served as director of the Department of Nursing of the American Red Cross, where she helped to develop a reserve for the Army Nurse Corps, with the result that a large number of well-trained nurses were available for duty in World War I.
