vacuum phenomenonImaging A linear or oval radiolucency that corresponds to gas in the intervertebral space, most often seen in degenerative disk disease DiffDx Vertebral osteomyelitis, Schmorl's nodes, spondylosis deformans, necrotic vertebral collapse, often with loss of height and reactive osteosclerosis.
