IGF2A gene on chromosome 11p15.5 that encodes a protein, similar to insulin in structure and function, which belongs to a family of proteins involved in mediating growth and development. It is an imprinted gene and expressed only from the paternal allele.
Epigenetic changes at 11p15.5 are associated with Wilms tumour, Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome, rhabdomyosarcoma and Silver-Russell syndrome.
