insulin-like growth factor

Either of two peptides that are structurally similar to insulin and are involved in the regulation of cell growth and differentiation. Also called somatomedin.

insulin-like growth factor (IGF)

hormones that stimulate protein synthesis and sulfation. IGF I and II play a role in uterine and placental growth and early fetal growth during pregnancy. IGF I is also called somatomedin C.
