The architecture includes the input layer, which allows connecting different input devices and accesses their input streams; the gesture processing layer, which implements recognition and learning services; the application layer, which provides some ready-to-use services for the end-user applications (e.g., stream access, gesture recording, and playing back).
Input devices (keyboards and pointing devices) should be placed at about the same height as the user's elbows.
The ability to use multiple document input devices allows organizations to standardize on a single system to process both paper and electronic documents, and respond to changes in their business environment.
Typically a user must touch numerous points on the screen to calibrate ala input device, taking time away from presentations.
Some studies have directly examined older adults' use of input devices. When using a mouse, older adults tend to make more errors and are slower than younger adults (Charness, Kelley, Bosman, & Mottram, 2001; Smith, Sharit, & Czaja, 1999; Walker et al., 1997), even if they are experienced mouse users (Walker, Millians, & Worden, 1996).
Commercially, there is a wider variety of available energy output devices than energy input devices.
Three areas of CAT are then covered; the first section is "Adaptations and Alternate Input Devices." Adaptations to the standard keyboard or mouse may provide the type of accommodation that meets the individual's needs or desires.
The two basic functions of a Virtual Environment (VE) development toolkit are managing different display devices (such as head-mounted displays, stereoscopic projection displays and haptic displays) and handling input devices (such as motion trackers, dials and buttons).
The third edition of 'PC Hardware in a Nutshell' contains information for people running either Windows or Linux operating systems and includes chapters on motherboards, processors, memory, floppies, hard drives, optical drives, tape devices, video devices, input devices, audio components, communications, power supplies and maintenance.
Operator input into one or more devices to be controlled by the operator is provided through a holographic image of the keys or other input devices customarily actuated to provide input data to the system wherein actuation of the holographic image of the input devices is detected optically without tangible physical contact by the operator with a solid control object or control surface.
Manufacturers are also experimenting with novel touch-based input devices. They contrast with the Familiar keyboard or mouse by not requiring any visual Feedback, such as Following the mouse cursor on a screen.
Patented in April of last year, the Patent Office described the technology as "operator input into one or more devices to be controlled by the operator is provided through a holographic image of the keys or other input devices customarily actuated to provide input data to the system wherein actuation of the holographic image of the input devices is detected optically without tangible physical contact by the operator with a solid control object or control surface."
