Baló's disease(redirected from Ieukoencephalitis periaxilaris concentrica)
Baló's disease(1) A poorly delineated neurologic entity now regarded as a variant of Schilder disease, which it resembles both clinically and in its pattern of distribution; it is separated therefrom merely by the annular demyelination seen in Baló's disease, a distinction of uncertain utility.
(2) The term Schilder's disease has been applied to a myriad of conditions which have as a non plus minimum the pathologic finding of generalised multifocal cerebral demyelination (diffuse sclerosis), which may be due to adrenoleukodystrophy and intracranial lymphoma (both having been described by Schilder), as well as vascular encephalopathies, poor nutrition, hereditary disease and others.
