ITIM

A short sequence of amino acids [(ILV)-x-x-Y-x-(LV)] found in the cytoplasmic tail of inhibitory immune receptors—e.g., platelet-endothelial cell adhesion molecule (1–PECAM-1/CD31). Phosphorylation of tyrosine residues in ITIMs is an important signalling mechanism which regulates immune cell activation and possibly other cellular processes.
