ITGA4

A gene on chromosome 2q31.3 that encodes an integrin alpha chain protein which, like all integrins, forms a heterodimer with either a beta-1 chain, which is known as VLA4, or with a beta-7 chain, both of which are receptors for fibronectin and VCAM1. Alpha1 beta7 is also a receptor for MADCAM1. VLA4 is thought to participate in cytolytic T-cell interactions with target cells.

(EA Pharma) have revealed a mechanism in which an analogue (ER-464195-01) of Eisai's in-house discovered E6007 inhibits integrin activation by dissociating interaction between calreticulin (CRT) and integrin alpha 4 (ITGA4), suppressing adhesion and infiltration of leukocytes overall.
Currently, in addition to observing infiltration of various leukocytes into the inflamed sites of IBD, ITGA4 is strongly expressed, and therefore treatment consists of leukocyte apheresis therapy or monoclonal antibody treatment targeting ITGA4.

Whereas the genes integrin a8 (ITGA8), ITGA4, and ITGA11 were up-regulated in NC cells only, ITGB6 was up-regulated in NEP cells only (relative to hESC).
