A gene on chromosome 14q12 that encodes a receptor that imports proteins into the nucleus. It is thought to mediate docking of the importin/substrate complex to the nuclear pore complex by binding to nucleoporin; the complex is then translocated through the pore by an energy-requiring, Ran-dependent mechanism.Segen's Medical Dictionary. © 2012 Farlex, Inc.
