IGFBP5

IGFBP5

A gene on chromosome 2q33-q36 that encodes a member of the insulin-like growth factor binding protein (IGFBP) family that binds insulin-like growth factors I and II and circulates in the plasma. IGFBP5 binding prolongs the half-life of the IGFs and alters their interaction with cell surface receptors.

Bladder cancer gene panels used in the Cxbladder Detect urinary test were also examined (CDK1, MDK, IGFBP5, HOXA13 and CXCR2).
48) In an MMTV-Wntl mouse mammary tumor model, regression of mammary tumors by Wnt inhibitor Fzd8CRD was associated with an acute and strong induction of IGF-binding protein IGFBP5, another member of the IGF-binding protein family and an antagonist of IGF signaling that mediates involution of the mammary gland in females after offspring are weaned.

Ten are of known function [GJA1, ITGB3, collagen type I alpha 1 (COL1A1), IGFBP5, MMP2, myosin light polypeptide kinase (MYLK), GATA binding protein 6 (GATA6), chemokine (C-C motif) ligand 2 (CCL2), protein kinase C alpha (PRKCA), and nudeoporin (NUP88)], and one has unknown function.
To determine whether DNA hypermethylation silencing was involved in arsenic-induced gene suppression, we tested a methyltransferase inhibitor, 5-aza-dC, for its ability to restore IGFBP5 and MMP2 mRNA levels (measured by semiquantitative RT-PCR and Q-PCR) in HUC-1 cells treated with arsenicals.
Furthermore, the methyltransferase inhibitor 5-aza-dC partially restored transcription of IGFBP5 and MMP2, again implying that epigenetic gene regulation may be involved in chronic arsenical-mediated gene modulation.
