IGFBP2

A gene on chromosome 2q33-q34 that encodes a member of the insulin-like growth factor binding protein (IGFBP) family that binds insulin-like growth I and II and circulates in the plasma. IGFBP2 binding prolongs the half-life of the IGFs, alters their interaction with cell surface receptors, and inhibits IGF-mediated growth and development.

IGFBP-2 promotes the keratocyte phenotype of differentiating human corneal fibroblasts from MSCs by increasing the expression of keratocan and ALDH1A1 and decreasing [alpha]-smooth muscle actin [122].
Serum levels of insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-binding protein-3 (IGFBP-3) in healthy infants, children, and adolescents: the relation to IGF-1, IGF-1I, IGFBP-1, IGFBP-2, age, sex, body mass index, and pubertal maturation.
The 30 kDa IGFBP corresponding to IGFBP-2 found in mammals is regulated by nutrition and developmental stage (Yang et al., 1993; Kita et al., 1996; Morishita et al., 1996; Kita et al., 2002).
Before processing (as recommended by the kit manufacturer), samples should be spiked with a range of IGFBP concentrations (IGFBP-2 and IGFBP-3) up to twice the upper limit of the reference interval to ensure the absence of interference.
