IFNG

IFNG

A gene on chromosome 12q14 that encodes a soluble cytokine belonging to the type-II interferon family that has antiviral, immunoregulatory and anti-tumour properties, and is a potent macrophage activator. It is produced by lymphocytes activated by specific antigens or mitogens.

Molecular pathology
Defects in IFNG is associated with increased susceptibility to aplastic anaemia in Caucasians.
