IFI16

A gene on chromosome 1q22 that encodes a member of the HIN-200 (haematopoietic interferon-inducible nuclear antigens with 200 amino acid repeats) family of cytokines, which contain domains involved in DNA binding, transcription regulation and protein–protein interactions. IFI16 localises to the nucleus and nucleoli and interacts with p53 and retinoblastoma-1, modulating p53 function, and downregulates cell growth by the Ras/Raf signalling pathway. It is expressed in peripheral white cells (lymphoid, monocytic and myeloid precursors) and in fibroblasts.
