hypocalcaemia

Inadequate blood levels of calcium. This may be caused by inadequate intake or absorption, low output of hormone by the parathyroid glands (HYPOPARATHYROIDISM) or PANCREATITIS. The result may be TETANY. The proportion of blood calcium in the ionized form is reduced in ALKALOSIS and this, too may cause tetany.
