Now the power plant will prepare for the hot hydrotest of the block.
Researchers are attempting to validate that ILI tools can, in some situations, provide an assessment that would find any defect that would fail a hydrotest. Partnering with Quest Integrated (Qi2), an integrity management company, GTI is creating critical flaw curves for various pipe configurations (yield strength, diameter, wall thickness and SMYS percentage).
The end result of the research will be a calculator that operators can use to determine the performance requirements of ILI tools for a specific line segment to provide a hydrotest equivalency.
If the provision is eliminated, the pipeline industry could be required to hydrotest thousands of miles of pipe, potentially resulting in pressure reductions, service outages, environmental issues associated with hydrotest water disposal and significant costs.
(1) The NTSB noted that research demonstrated that a spike test can identify certain defects that may not be revealed by a hydrotest alone, but which may fail when the pipeline is returned to service after the hydrotest through a phenomenon known as pressure reversal.
The digital hydrotest monitoring and control system appears to offer greater precision and reliability with respect to the analysis of events and the recording of data in real time.
Using the Remote Flooding Module (RFM) and Subsea Hydrotest Pump (SHP) on behalf of Subsea 7 and Chevron, Norson says it flooded and pigged 15 subsea pipelines from 3-12-inches in diameter, 4-9 km in length in water depths of over 550 m, with filtered, treated water all in accordance with specifications.
Using their Remote Flooding Module (RFM) and Subsea Hydrotest Pump (SHP) on behalf of Subsea 7 and Chevron, Norson flooded and pigged 15 subsea pipelines ranging from 3-12-inches in diameter and 4-9 km in length that were located in more than 550 meters of water with filtered, treated water all in accordance with specifications.
The full-coating encapsulation allows the gasket to be hydrotested and left in the pipeline with the same isolation properties as before it was tested.
Meeting all CSA specifications, assembly was designed, fabricated, dry fit, inspected, hydrotested and painted in sections before sending to the jobsite in Canada.
