Homo sapiens idaltuAn extinct subspecies of Homo sapiens found in the Herto dig in Ethiopia’s Middle Awash region, the skulls of which were dated at nearly 160,000 years old; Homo sapiens idaltu had distinguishing features of today’s humans, such as a high round skull and flat face without a brow ridge.
