The first finding is the decrease in the distance of the upper edge of the metaphysis to the Hilgenreiner line, which is generally 9.3 mm [+ or -] 1.5 at 7 months of age.
One reference line is drawn horizontally through the triradiate cartilages of the pelvis and is called the Hilgenreiner line. Another line, called the Perkin line, is drawn perpendicular to the Hilgenreiner line along the lateral edges of the acetabula.
