Heinz bodies

Granules in red blood cells usually attached to the red blood cell membrane, seen in blood smears of persons with hemoglobinopathies, thalassemias, and after splenectomy. The bodies are best seen when the blood is stained with a special stain.

Heinz body anemia

Hemolytic anemia associated with the finding of Heinz bodies in red blood cells.
