H-Bomb Sign

A finding in a radiocontrast study of a stomach with atrophic gastritis, in which the fundus appears as a ‘bald’ dome with thinned rugae and an attenuated gastric wall; the speckled background is due to poor mixing of gastric secretions with the barium; when erect and distended with air, the ‘mushroom’ appearance has been fancifully likened to the appearance of a hydrogen bomb explosion
