S100A6(redirected from Growth factor-inducible protein 2A9)
S100A6A gene on chromosome 1q21 that encodes a member of the S100 family of proteins, which have 2 EF-hand calcium-binding motifs. S100 proteins are localised in the cytoplasm and/or nucleus of a wide range of cells; they are involved in regulating cell cycle progression, differentiation and other intracellular activities. S100A6 is thought to play a role in stimulating Ca2+-dependent insulin release, stimulating prolactin secretion, and exocytosis.
