The branch of biology that deals with the structure and function of glycans. Also called glycomics.

The study of the role of carbohydrates in biological events and their association with disease processes and mechanisms. Major advances in the understanding of the roles of glycoproteins and glycolipids has, in recent years, elevated glycobiology into a discipline in its own right.
