Giant Mitochondria

Massively enlarged mitochondria that appear as pale rounded eosinophilic masses by light microscopy, which mimic both red cells and Mallory’s hyaline; the finding of giant mitochondria in hepatocytes is nonspecific but characteristic of all phases of alcoholic liver disease, ranging from fatty liver to cirrhosis
