GPC4

GPC4

A gene on chromosome Xq26.1 that encodes glypican 4, a cell surface proteoglycan with heparan sulfate that may play a role in the development of renal tubules and the CNS.

Molecular pathology
GPC4’s adjacency to the 3’ end of GPC3 suggests that it may play a role in Simpson-Golabi-Behmel syndrome.

Two adjacent genes on the X chromosome, GPC3 and GPC4, have been implicated in SGBS.
GPC4 is such a candidate owing to the discovery of a duplication; however, since subsequent studies have failed to identify point mutations, other as yet unidentified genes should be considered.
