GOT2

A gene on chromosome 16q21 that encodes the inner-membrane mitochondrial form of glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase, a pyridoxal phosphate-dependent enzyme that also exists as a cytoplasmic form (GOT1). GOT1 and -2 both play key roles in amino acid metabolism and the urea and tricarboxylic acid cycles, as well as in the exchange of metabolites between mitochondria and cytosol. GOT2 facilitates cellular uptake of long-chain free fatty acids.
