FOLH1
A gene on chromosome 11p11.2 that encodes folate hydrolase 1, which has both folate hydrolase (FH) and N-acetylated-alpha-linked-acidic dipeptidase (NAALADase) activity. It acts as an FH in the intestine and is required for the uptake of folate; in the brain, it modulates excitatory neurotransmission by hydrolysing the neuropeptide N-aceylaspartylglutamate (NAAG), releasing glutamate. It is highly expressed in the prostate.Segen's Medical Dictionary. © 2012 Farlex, Inc. All rights reserved.
