GAS1

A gene on chromosome 9q21.3-q22 that encodes growth arrest-specific 1 protein, which plays a role in growth suppression, blocking cell entry to S phase, preventing the cycling of normal and transformed cells. GAS1 is a putative tumour suppressor gene.

We find that both Harn's asynchronous GAS1 and Harn's asynchronous GAS2 share one critical weakness.
The key idea of our attack on Harn's asynchronous GAS1 is introduced in the following phases.
We first compare the computational complexities of the three schemes: ours, Harn's GAS1, and Harn's GAS2.
Each participant in Harn's GAS1 takes k[(2(m - 2) + 3) [P.sub.mul,p] + [T.sub.inv.p]] for computing [c.sub.i], takes (m - 1)[T.sub.add,p] for computing s', and takes 1 [T.sub.h] for verifying h(s) [??] h(s').

Genes in this group included GAS1 (growth-arrestspecific 1) that was first recognized as induced in Go cells (Del Sal et al.
Moreover, a [G.sub.0]-specific gene, GAS1, was markedly induced at 24 hr, indicating induction of a [G.sub.0]-1ike state of quiescence.
