Etymology: Carl Friedländer; Gk, pneumon, lung
a form of bronchopneumonia with a high mortality rate, particularly among older patients, caused by the bacterium Klebsiella pneumoniae. The pneumonic patches tend to become confluent, and those who survive may experience pulmonary abscesses and necrosis.
Friedländer's pneumonia(1) A severe form of Klebsieilla pneumoniae pneumonia.
(2) K pneumoniae pneumonia.
