news release
A document of public record in which an institution or organisation formally announces matters of interest to media “consumers”, intended to inform the public while attracting publicity to the institution where the newsworthy event(s) occurred. News releases can be problematic if the claims made to the public (e.g., a cure for a “dread disease”, such as AIDS or cancer) do not survive scientific scrutiny, resulting in a credibility gap.Segen's Medical Dictionary. © 2012 Farlex, Inc.
