He had been treated with oral
fluocortolone (40 mg/day), cyclosporine (150 mg/day), and sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim (200 mg/day) and was using therapeutic contact lenses, prednisolone acetate eye drops twice daily, unpreserved artificial tears as needed, and moxifloxacin drops three times daily.
He was treated with
fluocortolone 40 mg daily for two months, with no clinical benefit.
Of this group, 72 patients had been treated with 1 mg/kg of
fluocortolone with dose reductions of 10 mg every 3 days, 100-mg ampules of pentoxifylline three times a day for 15 days, 500 ml of dextran once a day for 3 days, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy for 2 weeks.
Treatment with 0.1/5 mL topical dexamethasone drops (16 times/day), cyclopentolate hydrochloride drops (3 times/day) and 20 mg oral
fluocortolone (3 times/day) was initiated.
