Any of a number of agents that add bulk to the gastric content, which increases the sensation of fullness in dieters ingesting large quantities of food. Fillers include various water-insoluble fibres—e.g., methylcellulose, or glucamannan (which is derived from the Japanese Konjac root).
1. In plastic surgery, any substance inserted into another to give it a plumper shape or contour.
2. In dentistry and orthopedics, a porous material used in bone cements, resins, or other bonding materials to improve their performance, e.g., bonding strength, elution rates, or resistance to wear in the body.
