The approach recommended by the Turkish Ministry of Health for CRC screening includes FOB testing
every other year and colonoscopy every 10 years for all patients between 50-70 years of age and for patients over 40 years of age who are at increased risk for CRC.
As a result, the report predicts that more doctors in Brazil will recommend such screening test to patients, as an alternative to FOB testing
and screening colonoscopies.
'And certainly amongst the GI community there was controversy as to whether a screening program based on FOB testing
was the best approach," he added.
Despite FOB testing
's being recommended by the American Cancer Society and the World Health Organization, less than one in five Americans are being screened by any method.
Frequencies of rectal examinations, FOB testing and flexible sigmoidoscopies were determined for each age category and for men and women in each category.
There was significantly more FOB testing in patients aged 50-60 than in those aged [is greater than or equal to] 71 years (P [is less than] 0.02).
