LZTS1

A gene on chromosome 8p22 that encodes a tumour-suppressor protein ubiquitously expressed in normal tissue. LZTS1 has a role in cell cycle control by interacting with the Cdk1/cyclinB1 complex and preventing uncontrolled cell proliferation.

Molecular pathology
Loss of heterozygosity in chromosome 8p is linked to various cancers; LZTS1 is normally expressed in low-grade or non-metastasising uveal melanomas, and silenced in aggressive and metastasising forms.
